Meet Sarah, Founder of Recipe Diaries

Sarah, founder and head chef of Recipe Diaries

Founder & Head Chef · Recipe Developer

I started Recipe Diaries from a single belief: every meal deserves to be made with intention. What began as a personal notebook, scrawled with adjustments, timing notes, and margin sketches, grew into a space for home cooks who care deeply about flavor, technique, and the stories that food carries.

My cooking is rooted in the sensory: the sound of a proper sear, the smell of garlic meeting warm fat, the texture that tells you a braise is done before any timer does. Over ten years of developing recipes, I trained in professional kitchens before returning to home cooking — because that is where food is most honest.

Every recipe on this site has been cooked at least three times in my own kitchen. If a step is confusing or an ingredient hard to find, I rewrite it until it isn't. My goal is simple: you cook it once and you want to cook it again.

How Recipe Diaries Started

Recipe Diaries launched in 2021 as a personal archive: a place to record the meals I cooked well enough to want to repeat. The early recipes were brief: a ratio, a temperature, a note on timing. Over time, the notes grew into stories, and the stories attracted readers.

What surprised me most was the feedback. Readers were not just looking for instructions; they wanted to understand why a technique worked, where a dish came from, and how to adapt it to what was in their refrigerator on a Tuesday evening.

That demand shaped Recipe Diaries into what it is today: a home cooking resource built around context as much as method. Every recipe includes prep and cook times, full nutrition information, step-by-step instructions, and tips for common substitutions. We cover everything from five-ingredient weeknight pasta to slow-cooked weekend projects that fill the kitchen with warmth.

Our Cooking Philosophy

Three principles guide every recipe we develop and every article we write.

Bold, Balanced Flavors

We build every recipe around contrast: acid against fat, sweetness against heat, crunch against silk. Flavor is never an afterthought.

Technique That Makes Sense

We explain the why behind every step. Understanding a technique means you can apply it to any dish, not just follow it once.

Tested Until It Works

Every recipe on Recipe Diaries is cooked, tasted, and adjusted in a real home kitchen before it ever reaches you.

What You Will Find on Recipe Diaries

Our recipe library covers every corner of the home kitchen. Browse by category or use the search to find exactly what you need.

Our Recipe Promise

Every recipe is tested at home, in a real kitchen with standard equipment: no professional ovens, no culinary-school pantries. If it works here, it works everywhere.

Ingredients are accessible. We avoid specialist items and single-use ingredients whenever possible. Where a specialty ingredient is genuinely essential, we always list a substitution.

Instructions are written for real people. Not assumed culinary knowledge, no vague steps like "cook until done." Every action in a Recipe Diaries method has a sensory cue: what to look for, smell for, or listen for.

Nutrition data is included on every recipe. Calories, protein, carbohydrates, fat, and key micronutrients are calculated per serving so you can cook confidently within any dietary goal.
